The intersection between raw, pure punk spirit and free improvisation (or jazz) is often scoffed at by purists in either camp.

One can claim that the other is either too structured or obvious or heavy or scattered or non-sensical or boring or confusing. So on and forth. The reality is that both forms were born from a similar lineage and in a live context can unleash creative beasts out of the performers and provide the audience with a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Enter our friend Max Nordile.

We've been fans of Max's for quite some time. Whether it was his skronking and belting away in no-wave/punk purveyors PREENING, or clanging, banging, and scratching his way towards "Building a Better Void" with his solo works- Max's efforts crosses borders in the punk and improvisational world that reaches far and wide. We thought this execution and mentality sums up a great deal of what we aim for at Wet Cassettes: It's weird, it's dirty, it's unique.

Not everyone will get these songs. Hell, we're not even sure we completely do. But if one allows the relaxing of mental barriers that years of playlists and articles that focus solely on pushing what defines one genre or another have built up- you'll love this (a) Race to the Bottom with Max and his one-of-a-kind perspective.
