Some stories are almost too-good-to-be-true, and this is one of them.

Running a cassette label specializing in "Wet Dirty Music for Weird Dirty People" - sometimes you reach your peak audience by accident.

A friend of ours (who will remain nameless) from California bought a whole bunch of Wet Cassettes albums in early 2020, and apparently did some tape trading with other friends in some underground exchange out there.

As a result, one of the folks he traded with got our mailing address and submitted a tape full of what you find here: ORAL HEX.

No name attached to the package. No return address. No artwork or tracklist. Just a tape and a letter stating (paraphrasing here):

"___ showed me some of your work, I thought you might be interested in releasing this. If not, that's fine too."

They signed this letter with the project name.

We reached out to our friend to see if he knew of anyone he traded with that might be "Oral Hex." He had no idea. But, to be fair, it could be that friend just pulling a prank on us. We don't know and honestly- it's okay with us that we don't.

That's a lot to unpack, and when you get listening for the first time, it's even more to take on mentally. Our collective first playback was filled with teenage maniacal laughter, serious head bobbing, and general confusion.

Ultimately what we have here are 10 tracks that bleed into each other (we cut them up for digital purposes) that blend what we can best describe as German techno, synth, industrial noise (I hear chains and things vibrating in the background) and...gasp...sex noises. It sounds like most of these are lifted from some adult videos but who knows if the artists' exploits are also interlaced.

We couldn't think of a better synopsis of our philosophy than this, and thank our friend for submitting it to us and allowing us to release it.

A surprisingly sensitive work that is let down by the ill-judged title. The delicacy of instrumentation is matched only by the Enya-esque washes of synth and warmth of the female vocals. Anyone expecting a collection of audio-verité recordings of our hero banging the named ladies in the song titles whilst squalls of noise soundtrack proceedings is going to be very disappointed indeed.
